TrendsConnector for VS Code

Connect TrendsConnector to VS Code with one mcp.json entry. Copilot chat can check trend data while you build.

VS Code stores MCP servers in .vscode/mcp.json under a servers key, with type http for remote servers. One entry connects the editor and Copilot chat to trend history, growth and live boards. Every series comes back on a shared 0 to 100 index, so one answer can compare Google, YouTube, TikTok, Amazon and the rest without a per platform account, scraper or API key.

Using TrendsConnector, did interest in this framework grow over the last 12 months?

What you can pull

History and growth return weekly points on a 0 to 100 index, with absolute volume where the source provides it. Growth can compare several windows and several sources in one call. Live boards return the current ranked list with no keyword at all. Popular starting points:

Good to know

VS Code wants the servers key, not mcpServers. A Cursor style block pasted here fails silently.

TrendsConnector returns trend data: history, growth and live boards on a normalized scale. It is not a scraper, and it does not return raw posts, videos, listings or personal data. The full client setup reference, including copy paste config for every supported client, is in the docs connect guide.

Questions

Can the config travel with the repo?

Yes. Commit the file without the secret by referencing an input variable for the key. Teammates add their own key at first start.

Does Copilot see the same tools?

Yes. Copilot in VS Code reads the same workspace MCP file in agent mode. The dedicated Copilot page covers the coding agent side.

Is TrendsConnector free in VS Code?

Yes, to start. The Free plan includes 100 requests a month, every data source, and both MCP and API access, with no credit card. Paid plans (Starter $19, Pro $49, Business $199 a month) raise the request limit and history depth. Annual billing saves 20 percent.

Which sources can I query once this is connected?

Every source on the same key: Google Trends, Google Shopping, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, Wikipedia, news, app, Steam, npm, PyPI, X, Spotify, GitHub, IMDb, Open Library, Substack and web traffic series, plus the live ranked boards. Ask for up to five years of weekly history or growth over windows such as 3M, 12M and YTD.

Do I need a separate key for each client?

No. One TrendsConnector key works in every client and as a Bearer token for direct REST calls. Register it in each client you use.
