Coding agent
TrendsConnector for GitHub Copilot
Give GitHub Copilot the TrendsConnector tools. Agent mode and the coding agent can check trend data in the middle of a task.
Copilot calls TrendsConnector in agent mode in the editor and in the Copilot coding agent on GitHub. Register the server once and Copilot checks growth and live boards instead of guessing from training data. Every series comes back on a shared 0 to 100 index, so one answer can compare Google, YouTube, TikTok, Amazon and the rest without a per platform account, scraper or API key.
Connect in 3 steps
- Get a free TrendsConnector API key. 100 requests a month, no credit card.
- In VS Code, the workspace MCP file already gives Copilot the tools. On GitHub, add the MCP configuration in the Copilot coding agent settings with the key stored as a secret.
- In agent mode, confirm the trend tools are enabled, then ask Copilot to check a claim before it writes.

Using TrendsConnector, compare 12-month npm growth for both libraries before you recommend one.
What you can pull
History and growth return weekly points on a 0 to 100 index, with absolute volume where the source provides it. Growth can compare several windows and several sources in one call. Live boards return the current ranked list with no keyword at all. Popular starting points:
Good to know
Store the key as a Copilot secret and reference it. Never commit the value itself.
TrendsConnector returns trend data: history, growth and live boards on a normalized scale. It is not a scraper, and it does not return raw posts, videos, listings or personal data. The full client setup reference, including copy paste config for every supported client, is in the docs connect guide.

Questions
How is this different from the VS Code page?
The VS Code page registers the server for the editor. This page is about Copilot as the caller: agent mode picking tools mid task, and the coding agent doing repository work.
What does Copilot do with trend tools?
It answers the data half of a coding question, such as which library is gaining ground or what tops the GitHub board today, then writes with the numbers in hand.
Is TrendsConnector free in GitHub Copilot?
Yes, to start. The Free plan includes 100 requests a month, every data source, and both MCP and API access, with no credit card. Paid plans (Starter $19, Pro $49, Business $199 a month) raise the request limit and history depth. Annual billing saves 20 percent.
Which sources can I query once this is connected?
Every source on the same key: Google Trends, Google Shopping, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, Wikipedia, news, app, Steam, npm, PyPI, X, Spotify, GitHub, IMDb, Open Library, Substack and web traffic series, plus the live ranked boards. Ask for up to five years of weekly history or growth over windows such as 3M, 12M and YTD.
Do I need a separate key for each client?
No. One TrendsConnector key works in every client and as a Bearer token for direct REST calls. Register it in each client you use.
