CLI agent
TrendsConnector for Codex
Connect TrendsConnector to OpenAI Codex through config.toml. The agent checks trend data while it works your repo.
Codex reads MCP servers from its config.toml. One table registers TrendsConnector as a remote HTTP server with your key in a header. Every series comes back on a shared 0 to 100 index, so one answer can compare Google, YouTube, TikTok, Amazon and the rest without a per platform account, scraper or API key.
Connect in 3 steps
- Get a free TrendsConnector API key. 100 requests a month, no credit card.

What you can pull
History and growth return weekly points on a 0 to 100 index, with absolute volume where the source provides it. Growth can compare several windows and several sources in one call. Live boards return the current ranked list with no keyword at all. Popular starting points:
Good to know
Codex loads MCP servers at session start. Edit the config, then start a new session to see the tools.
TrendsConnector returns trend data: history, growth and live boards on a normalized scale. It is not a scraper, and it does not return raw posts, videos, listings or personal data. The full client setup reference, including copy paste config for every supported client, is in the docs connect guide.

Questions
Can Codex store the key outside the file?
Yes. Codex supports bearer token and environment based header options. Keep the raw key out of a committed config on shared repos.
What does the agent use the data for?
Dependency choices, naming checks, and market context while it edits, all quoted from live calls instead of memory.
Is TrendsConnector free in Codex?
Yes, to start. The Free plan includes 100 requests a month, every data source, and both MCP and API access, with no credit card. Paid plans (Starter $19, Pro $49, Business $199 a month) raise the request limit and history depth. Annual billing saves 20 percent.
Which sources can I query once this is connected?
Every source on the same key: Google Trends, Google Shopping, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, Wikipedia, news, app, Steam, npm, PyPI, X, Spotify, GitHub, IMDb, Open Library, Substack and web traffic series, plus the live ranked boards. Ask for up to five years of weekly history or growth over windows such as 3M, 12M and YTD.
Do I need a separate key for each client?
No. One TrendsConnector key works in every client and as a Bearer token for direct REST calls. Register it in each client you use.
