Coding agent

TrendsConnector for Cline

Connect TrendsConnector to Cline through its own MCP settings. The agent checks trend data with per call approval.

Cline keeps MCP servers in its own settings file inside VS Code, separate from the workspace MCP file. Add one entry and the agent gains trend history, growth and live boards. Every series comes back on a shared 0 to 100 index, so one answer can compare Google, YouTube, TikTok, Amazon and the rest without a per platform account, scraper or API key.

What you can pull

History and growth return weekly points on a 0 to 100 index, with absolute volume where the source provides it. Growth can compare several windows and several sources in one call. Live boards return the current ranked list with no keyword at all. Popular starting points:

Good to know

Cline asks before each tool call unless auto approve is on for the server. Trend reads change nothing outside the session, so most projects auto approve them.

TrendsConnector returns trend data: history, growth and live boards on a normalized scale. It is not a scraper, and it does not return raw posts, videos, listings or personal data. The full client setup reference, including copy paste config for every supported client, is in the docs connect guide.

Questions

Why does Cline ignore my workspace MCP file?

Cline keeps its own settings. The workspace file serves the editor and Copilot; Cline needs its own registration.

What does a failed connect look like?

A red status in the MCP panel, usually a header problem. The error text there names the cause.

Is TrendsConnector free in Cline?

Yes, to start. The Free plan includes 100 requests a month, every data source, and both MCP and API access, with no credit card. Paid plans (Starter $19, Pro $49, Business $199 a month) raise the request limit and history depth. Annual billing saves 20 percent.

Which sources can I query once this is connected?

Every source on the same key: Google Trends, Google Shopping, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, Wikipedia, news, app, Steam, npm, PyPI, X, Spotify, GitHub, IMDb, Open Library, Substack and web traffic series, plus the live ranked boards. Ask for up to five years of weekly history or growth over windows such as 3M, 12M and YTD.

Do I need a separate key for each client?

No. One TrendsConnector key works in every client and as a Bearer token for direct REST calls. Register it in each client you use.
